OK people, I’m guilty of this. It’s all my fault, I promised too much on a video shoot, went to get it all and failed.
The whole day needs repeating on my expense. When you’ve kindly finished soighing and giving me side eye I will explain.
I have a habit of wanting to do everything for my clients and sometimes it gets in the way. I thought I was clever, if we shot the video on certain ways we can maximise what we get for it.
So with SLR, phone and gimbal set up, we went to get every angle. But it didn’t work. Trying to string it together was useless. At this point, I had to roll over and have my belly tickled.
Fortunately my client was amazing about it and luckily the urgent part of the project was good. It’s the other stuff I tried to cram in.
But Steve, why did it fail… Well…
1. I didn’t plan it out quite right
2. I didn’t put what we were trying to do anywhere but in my head
3. No plan
4. Stupidity
5. People pleasing
Probably more factors but they spring to mind. But let this be a lesson to everyone. Rather than try and get the full shebang out of everything, break it down, piece by piece, make sure you get what you need. Hear me? Good, don’t sit in front of your footage feeling like a total amateur.
By the way, I am better than this. Maybe I’m writing this to remind myself?
